Confederations Cup: Eagles will not miss Emenike, Moses – Amadu

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Amadu has declared that the Super Eagles will not miss the duo of Chelsea of England player, Victor Moses and Russia-based striker, Emmanuel Emenike as the team head for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Speaking with Newswatch Sports in Abuja, Amadu said that although the two players contributed immensely to the success of the team at the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, their absence will not affect the team, adding that it will afford other hungry players the opportunity to prove themselves.

He further stressed that the national team have proved with their performances in the last matches that they can do without Emenike and Moses.

Amadu commended the Super Eagles for the superlative performance in the match against Kenya where they snatched the maximum points to enhance their chances of qualifying for the next round of the qualifiers.

“There is nothing to worry about because of Emenike and   Moses absence from the Confederations Cup competition. The other players invited to the team have shown that they are capable replacements for them. It is just an opportunity for the new ones to take up the challenge and deliver. That was also the same way Moses and Emenike got their opportunities seized them,” he said.

He expressed great confidence in the ability of Joseph Akpala, John Ogu and Emmanuel Ujah to perform well at the Confederations Cup.

“These are players to watch out for at the Confederations Cup. I am so impressed with their contributions to the team and I believe that the Confederations Cup is another stage for them to showcase their skills,” Amadu said.

Looking forward to the next round of the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers, Amadu declared that the Eagles may be drawn against some tough Africa teams like Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon and 

Cote d’Ivoire, but that Nigeria are not afraid of any opposition.

 “We are not expecting tough opposition in the next round of the World Cup qualifier, however, with the performance of our team in recent matches it is obvious that it is now the team to be beat. I am sure that qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil will not be that difficult,” he said.
